Contact lense care

Soft contact lense care products overview

Contact lense care for soft contacts requires one or more products for each of the following steps: store, clean, rinse, disinfect, and sometimes remove protein deposits, depending on the duration of contact lens wear. The various contact lense care products include saline solution, daily cleaners, regular and no-rub hydrogen peroxide products, regular and no-rub multi-purpose solutions, cleaning and disinfecting devices, and where applicable protein removal products like daily protein removal liquids and enzymatic cleaners.

Contact lense careHere is more detail on what these products are used for and how they work. Saline solution is used for rinsing and storing your contact lenses. This may be used with cleaning tablets or cleaning and disinfecting devices. Daily cleaners usually require gently rubbing the contact lens in your palm for 20 seconds or so to clean the lens (remember to clean both sides of your contacts), and leave rinsing and disinfection to other products. Regular hydrogen peroxide solutions disinfect contacts after you clean and rinse them. Place the contacts in the lens container, and add the solution. You may need to add a neutralizing tablet to the container, though some hydrogen peroxide systems provide built-in neutralizer. This prevents the solution from stinging your eyes. Be sure to rinse the contact lenses with an appropriate product before putting them into your eyes. No-rub hydrogen peroxide solutions generally cover cleaning, disinfecting, rinsing, and storing your contact lenses with no other product needed. Usually, you place the contacts into a basket that comes with the solution, rinse the contacts, and then put them into a provided cup. Fill this cup with the no-rub hydrogen peroxide solution for cleaning and disinfecting your contacts. This product covers most all the bases for contact lens care. Regular and no-rub multi-purpose solutions can be used to clean, rinse, disinfect and store your lenses. With these products, generally, you simply rinse your contact lenses with the solution, and then put them into their case with more of the solution until you're ready to wear them. When you're ready to use your contact lenses again, rinse the contacts with the solution. Always follow the directions on the packaging or those of your eye doctor. The cool thing about regular and no-rub multi-purpose solutions is no other products are necessary to perform the essential steps of day to day contact lense care. Finally, cleaning and disinfecting devices cover these two steps of contact lense care usually with an ultrasonic wave or subsonic agitation technology. Disinfection is taken care of by using either ultraviolet light or a multi-purpose solution.
