Contact lens care essential tips

Here are some contact lens care essential tips. When changing contact lense care products remember to review this change with your eye doctor to make sure the new product(s) are compatible with your contact lenses.

Never let the tip of the contact lense care solution bottle touch anything, including your hand or your body, to avoid contaminating the solution.

Don't let water touch your contact lenses or accessories. Water can transport tiny organisms like Acanthamoeba which cause eye infections that can be quite serious. Regularly and properly disinfecting your contact lenses kills these microorganisms.

Wear goggles over your contacts or take your contacts out while swimming. You may wish to play it safe if you choose to wear your contacts while swimming by only using one day or daily contact lenses.

Contact lensIf you wear your contacts while showering, close your eyes when rinsing to avoid your contacts getting water on them. Remember, water can carry infection-causing microorganisms. If you do get water, shampoo or soap in your eyes, clean and disinfect your contacts as soon as possible. If you experience eye irritation that persists, contact your eye doctor immediately.

Remove your contacts or use daily or one day contacts when in a hot tub to reduce chances of water-related infection.

Avoid smoke, fumes, or vapors, as these may contaminate your contact lenses.

Faithfully clean the accessories for your contact lenses, like your contact lens case, enzymatic protein removal vials, cleaning and disinfecting devices, and so forth, as directed on the product packaging or as your eye doctor advises.

Replace the case for your contact lenses at least every month, or as directed, to lower your chances of an infection due to an unsanitary case.

Clean, rinse, and disinfect your contacts every day, or when you take out your extended wear contact lenses, if it's not time to discard them for a new pair.

Follow these contact lens care essential tips, the directions on your contact lens related product packages, and your eye doctor's instructions to keep your eyes healthier and your contacts more comfortable to wear.
